Do you know what you're buying?

There is a knock off, dupe and imitation for ev-ery-thing, including hair. Don’t be fooled, lured or enticed by marketing gimmicks, a barrage of sales, giveaways, celebrity partnerships, claims of exotic origin, paid endorsements by social media influencers or awesome commercial style videos .... None of this visual hype can or will change the fact that an overwhelming majority of the hair being sold is of poor quality. Don't get me wrong, there are a select few retailers whose quality is legit, but a vast majority of the hair on the market has been chemically processed to remove the cuticles and coated with a temporary mixture of silicon and other hazardous chemical agents in an attempt to mimic healthy human hair. The problem is that these chemicals are known to cause itching, rashes, scalp irritation and thinning hair loss. But no one thinks about it too deeply or makes a fuss because it’s cheap and it looks cute; until you shampoo it a few times.

I know what it’s like to become mesmerized by Youtube reviews about fancy sounding, yummy looking, over hyped, "virgin hair" that quickly ended up as coins wasted several weeks into my install.

WHAT DOES “PROCESSED HAIR” MEAN?

Processed hair is a culmination of dye-able, heat resistant, synthetic fibers and animal hair mixed with discarded hair collected from the ground, temple floors or combs and brushes. It is chemically altered using harsh stripping agents to remove the cuticles then re-coated with silicon to create a temporarily-silky finish. Processed hair is extremely cheap, this is why you see everyone and their momma selling hair and offering to let you in on their magnificently priced bundle deals.

Now let’s just think about this for a moment; keeping in mind that items of the highest quality (Clive Christian, Jean Patau Joy Baccarat, Hermes Porosus) are not readily available to the masses. So you must wonder, if it‘s truly high quality, how come it’s so easily accessible? Remember, you can’t fake luxury.

BUT HOW CAN YOU TELL THE DIFFERENCE?

Genuine high quality, 100% Virgin human hair is NEVER processed in any way. It’s single donor and cuticle aligned so matting, tangling and foul odors do NOT exist. Yes, it cost more, but owning amazing hair that can last up to one year is priceless. Knowing what to look for before you hit the check-out button will save you tons of money long term, allow you to make an educated hair investment, eliminate bad hair days and introduce you to a new hair life that’s trouble free and easy to maintain.

WHAT MAKES UNPROCESSED HAIR BETTER?

Well, better is as better does. Once Bundle babes Hair is collected, it is disinfected, cleansed, conditioned and sewn. That’s it! No chemicals, no fillers and no glued together wefts. Here are a few things to look out for when considering whether or not your “Virgin hair” is legit:

1. If all the textures are of a uniform pattern and has frilly little names like kinky curly, water wave, Brazilian, Eurasian, Malaysian, Russian, and the like - it’s poor quality masquerading as unprocessed hair.

     2. If there is a pungent odor similar to corn chips and funky feet that won’t go away no matter how long you soak it in your favorite conditioner - it’s poor quality masquerading as unprocessed hair.

    3. If it’s silky, shiny and behaves beautifully for 4-6 shampoos, then starts to tangle, ride up into a birds nest or looks dry no matter how much moisturizer you apply - it’s poor quality masquerading as unprocessed hair.

    4. If you hold a small piece over a flame and it melts instead of turning into ashes - it’s poor quality masquerading as unprocessed hair.

    5. If you gather a bundle of strands between your fingers and rub the hairs together like you’re creating friction, if the hairs don’t climb - it’s poor quality masquerading as unprocessed hair.

    6. if it indicates that the textures are derived using some sort of "gentle boiling" method - it’s poor quality masquerading as unprocessed hair.

    7. If the wave pattern disappears after a while and just won’t hold curls no matter how much Göt2b Freeze Spray you use - it’s poor quality masquerading as unprocessed hair.

Now, I could go on and on and on, but I’m sure you get the point by now. Being well informed has helped me save money and make better choices. I definitely did not grow up with a silver spoon in my mouth and I know what it means to struggle. Heck, I may have been the poster child... but I digress, the point is, I learned very early that you get what you pay for and quality always trumps quantity. When my budget didn't allow me to choose quality, I waited and saved up because I was tired of constantly needing to replace cheap items that never lived up to their promises. When you know better, you do better. - Maya Angelou

You might be thinking, okay “Ms. Smarty Pants,” what makes you an authority on hair?

Well, I have been obsessed with hair since discovering it’s beauty as a toddler. Also, as a master hair extensionist of over 20 years I have literally been handling and sewing in weave since I was 13, so years of trial, error and research have yielded me a massive amount of knowledge and afforded me the unique opportunity to experience the evolution of weave first hand. Additionally, advanced studies in chemistry have given me a lot of insight relative to the molecular structure and composition of hair, therefore I have great passion, appreciation and understanding of its importance and delicate balance.

I truly hope you have gained a deeper understanding into the world of virgin hair and are better able to recognize and avoid hair pitfalls, hype and disappointment. Choose quality over quantity, because you deserve better. 💕
